our process

The clothing you will see in our collections
is made from natural fibers and most of
the fabrics begin as black fabric.  We
then use an ancient Japanese
technique, called itajame shibori, where
fabrics and garment blanks are clamped
and clipped and wrapped in a variety of
ways to achieve certain effects when the
fabric is “discharged”.

Discharging is the process of taking the
color out of fabric, and can be achieved
using a number of different chemical
processes.  The discharging technique
creates the unusual depth and amazing
variations that will be found in every Art
of Cloth garment.
